Choice neighborhood initiative

Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (SRHA) has received the Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to begin the planning process to transform a significant portion of East Suffolk into a viable mixed-use and mixed-income community that supports positive outcomes for all families.  The name of this effort is called the East Suffolk Community:  White Marsh Neighborhood Initiative.

The goals of this initiative are as follows:

  • To create a Comprehensive Transformation Plan for the Cypress Manor/Parker Riddick public housing apartment communities, the White Marsh Shopping Center and adjacent  residential communities and vacant property;
  • To plan for high quality public schools, outstanding education and early learning programs, public assets and public transportation,
  • To plan for improved access to jobs and well functioning services
